WCAMI Members K.A. Letts and Barbara Melnik Carson Make Creative Connections at Leslie Science Center

December 11, 2014

A diverse group of individuals representing  Washtenaw County’s science  and cultural organizations met for drinks and conversation on Monday, December 8 at the Leslie Science Center for the Arts Alliance’s Holiday Creative Connections event. Arts Alliance Executive Director Deborah Polich introduced attending board members and interns working at A3Arts, following up with a brief report on the activities of the organization throughout the past year, including its work as a re-granting organization and the publication of the new 2014 ANNual Arts and Cultural Guide.

Of particular interest to visual artists are two current Calls for Public Art administered by Arts Alliance.  One, Canoe Imagine Art calls for proposals to re-purpose retired canoes into temporary installations celebrating the natural beauty of the Huron River. The second, Power Art, is a pilot project designed to visually transform traffic power boxes throughout Washtenaw County using “skin” technology. These calls are open to artists living in Washtenaw County; for more information go to http://www.a3arts.org.

Since we were at Leslie Science Center, we had the privilege of meeting a resident: a screech owl, one of many rescued animals who are sheltered there. As you can see, his eyes perfectly match Barbara’s flaming red hair!
